Important Update 24/03/2020: TfL is currently not accepting applications due to staff shortage caused by the current Covid-19 pandemic.

But don’t let this stop you from preparing, as the PCO licence requires you to go through several steps before applying.  We will help you understand the PCO Licence application process below and if you need us, we’re here to help you get ready when everything goes back to normal.

Register Online

You have to register online with TfL (Transport for London) or if you want you can call TfL on 0343 222 4444 to order an application pack. It’s faster to apply online, you can follow the steps below or get in touch for us to help you.

Register with TfL

Visit the official TfL Taxi and Private Hire registration page here

You will need to enter your details along with a valid email address, which is what you will use to log back in. Also, keep in mind your account will need to be activated by verifying your email address.

Don’t forget to pick a password you will remember and the answer to your security questions!

Activate your account

After you “Submit” and “Finish” the registration form. You will need to go check your emails for an email from TfL with subject line “TfL Taxi and Private Hire (Do Not Reply)” – in this email you will need to click the link to activate your account.

Sign back in

Once your account has been activated, you’ll be taken back to the TfL login page where you must “Sign In”. Enter the email you registered, and your password and it will then prompt you to enter the “Security Question”.

Select Licence Type

This page can look a bit confusing, remember this is the same login used to apply for Private Hire, Black Taxi and your future vehicle licence. So do keep the login information saved. You need to scroll down to the Apply for Driver Licence section and click “Apply for Private Hire or Taxi Driver Licence”.

Choose to apply online

You will be shown 2 options, you can either “Apply for Driver Licence Online” or “Request Driver Licence Application Pack” – We recommend applying online to avoid delays. On pressing “Apply for Driver Licence Online” you will need to scroll down and choose what licence you are applying for, select “Private Hire” from the drop-down menu and then click “Submit”.

Complete application form

This is the actual application form, you will start by answering some of the Mandatory Questions, followed by the Application Questions. You will then need to fill out an Equal Opportunities form and after that you will need to make the payment for your application online using your debit or credit card. The current TfL application fee is £310.
